    firefighters
That new movie out based around firefighters staring John Travolta has been the subject of my mind's musing this week. The fact that it so blatently exploits the national respect and admiration of firefighters, gained during 9/11 disaster, to make money.
i can see the board meeting now.
"hey firefighters are heros at the moment, lets make an action movie about them, decieve people into thinking its purely to honour them and then reap the rewards of a box office hit"
    genius.
i wont be seeing this patriotic piece of propoganda however ill wager the stars and stripes will be waving in the first 2 mins of the film.

    Religious Right
i recieved a chain email with a number of statements regarding statements about jesus
one of them was as follows

"Isn't it funny how the lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but the public discussion of Jesus is suppressed in the school and workplace."

no its not very funny. It seems this email comes from the religious right who wish to suppress content on the internet, as if internet content is related in any way to what is 'suppressed' in school and the workplace. This christian is stupid. And besides the muslim world i dont think there is a suppresion of christianity at school or in the workplace.

Freedom of speech allows you so say whatever you want but it doesnt mean you have to push your views onto others who dont care or are of another faith. did you ever think that people outside christianity dont want to discuss it because they are indifferant. Go to a religious school and talk about it all day. its ironic that ye who wish to control freedom of speech in cyperspace winge about the lack of in school and work.....idiot.

    i just had to comment

    Weed Brownies
    i ate four weed brownies.
after about an hour they started to kick in and we were chillin on the couch.
Someone asked dave to turn on the music and he pressed play.
Low and behold the best song ive heard in a long time came on and we all flew.
We were sitting there each experiancing something different. I felt i was mad of pieces much like a jigsaw and when this song came on all the peices floated into the air and it was one of the most blissful moments of my life.
The music was beautiful and we all agreed that it was a magical experiance.
the song was Southern Sun by Paul Oakenfold (Solar stone remix)

Chechnya is one fucked up place
I realised we never hear anything about Chechnya, the home of the recent school hostage takers in Russia. After the school hostage crises i wondered why a group of people who had obviously sabotaged their own cause by taking children hostage? It was obviously an extremely desperate option that could not have been seen to do good things for their cause. But why are they taking hostages? They were also responsible for the Moscow theatre siege. Taking children hostages, last time i checked, wasnt a popular means of gaining public support for ones cause...even in Russia.

The fact is the Russians have been in constant conflict with the Chechans for over 10 years and serious human rights violations are occuring in Chechnya everyday. The Chechens first fought in 1722. In 1944 the WHOLE population (400 000) was deported to harsh Siberia, those to weak or sick to move were executed. They were falsely accused by the Soviets of having co-operated with Hitler and this was used as an excuse to eliminate 50% of the Chechen population.

After the soviet union collapsed the Russian desire for the extermination of Chechens increased and in 1994 the newly formed republic of Chechnya was invaded under the pretense of restoring order. 100 000 civilian Chechens were killed during the conflict and all of Chechna's infrastructure was destroyed.

In 1999 Chechnya was again invaded, this time as a result of apartment bombings that were never proven to be of Chenchen origin. Russian forces continue to be responsible for immense numbers of arbitrary arrest and detention, extortion, looting of houses, torture, and murder. Russian forces are also continuosly linked with forced dissaperences, mass graves, systematic torture and the execution of civilians. Two chechan civilians 'dissapear' every single day never to be seen again.

The Russians continue to commit genocide against the Chechan people.
Hostage taking is never a legitimate option when fighting for ones freedom but the Russian forces continue to commit human rights abuses to this very day in Chechnya.
I can understand the desperation of the Chechan people and can imagine that each of those hostage takers had family executed by the Russian army and indeed had nothing left but their marytrdom.

Why am I (a black person) so cool?
Black people are cool and im proud to be one of them.
    But why is it so?
Is it the direct result of being a slave for 200 years? Is it because we came from Africa and the Carribean? Is it because after slavery we were pushed into poverty, causing us to break the law and not give a fuck, ultimately the antithesis of coolness? Is it because we are bunch of crack smokin, rappin gangsta niggers? you know it!
Being black isnt all pimpin and hoes though, there is discrimination, poverty , thug life and breakin out of the ghetto. Its a hard knock life, but thankfully i have my Tec9 (gun) to pump so much lead in niggas that they can use their dicks as pencils.
Man im sick of journal writin ima be out enforcin my hoes and makin shou' they be makin my chedda BIATCHES!

    Homosexuals against God?
I love asking christians whether they think homosexuality is wrong and against God because they all have a different answer, as does the church itself. When arguing that homosexuality is against the church one must confirm that being gay is actually a choice or whether one is born that way. If people are born gay then they are God's creation and therefor not against God but, gays by choice could be the opposite.
In todays society i dont know who would choose to be gay because this would only expose them to a world of discrimination and intollerance, especcially in the religious community.
I believe people can be born gay as their are repeated documented cases of homosexuality in nature. Obviousily animals are not conscious of choice but rather operate through instincts. So therefore how could God create something and then deem for it to be immoral?

Biblical passages used to condemn homosexuality are used very narrowly, while other contextual information is ignored.
Anything can be proven by "proof texting." In the past the Church has used this method to promote anti-Semitism, defend slavery, prove the supremacy of males, and secure belief in a flat earth. This is in addition to so much more falsehood that this entire space would be occupied if I attempted to list it!

"Jesus never mentioned homosexuals or homosexuality. He did mention money, elitism, public displays of religiosity, hypocrisy, judgementalism, legalism, and disregard for the poor and suffering. Have you ever wondered where the religious right happens to be on these issues? Have you ever wondered why the anti-gay religionists ignore the Sermon on the Mount and the other teachings of Jesus?" (http://david.cornwell.home.att.net/Viewpoints.htm)

For those who think im writing this because i must be comin out or some bullshit ill just say grow up. Its about choice and freedom.

    Beware of Gang Laughing
Whats the meaning of this title you ask?
When you are with your mates and girl approaches the group its immeditely tempting to make a crack to your mates involving the said girl... BUT resist!
Making a joke about your female collegue when they ar surrounded by blokes is a recipe for disaster if you value your friendship with that girl. Even if its just playful, nobody likes to be laughed at and her respect for you will immediately plummet. i know from experiance. By iscolating the girl they immediately become self councious and reclusive, whilst secretly realising that maybe your not the 'nice guy' after all. It might impress your mates but are you gonna go out with your mates? well maybe some guys but not most.
    Respect yo hoes!

The secret to getting that girl you want
People often approach me and ask "hey Dr.Nick how do you get all those stunningly beautiful women? is it because your name is Dr. Nick and you have a huge.....resu'me??" i simply laugh and tell them my secrets which include the following
    1: confidence
    2: indifference to rejection
3: drink spiking drug such as GHB, Ketamin or my personal favorite Rohypnol

With these 3 factors your set for a night on the town.
Let me know how it goes.

    The Pressures of Female Adolescents
    Salutations collugues!!
i was having dinner last night and the topic of christianity came up. My brother's girlfriend preceded to make an extremily valid point on the subject. She said that one of the reasons that christianity is so popular among youth is that in todays 'sex happy' world it provides an escape. In last months Cosmo they had a cover article titled 'ways to give better head' or something along those lines. In today's society the sexual activity of girls especially is hot topic. If you want to be sexually active you are a slut( the male equivilant being pimp), if you want to withold your chastity then you are frigid (male equivilant= ugly).
Nobody wants to be labeled with a demorolising name or charecatrised, so what choice is there???
Become a christian and make your chasticular vows known to the world!!!
This way there is no need for silly excuse making like 'im scared' or 'im not ready' just pull out the big guns and say 'travelling south-of-the-border is restricted to my wedding night'. This reason leaves no room for the guys follow up, 'but i really love you baby' or some other corny shit. Im not trying to put down christians but this is probably ONE of the reasons for SOME people.

    Im right...

    Friends?
Are the people around us really friends?
i think i really only have a few true friends, the bigger category are the people who use each other for support and advice. This may be a characteristic of a friend, but if thats all the relationship entails then i dont think thats a friendship. this may be consensual and may be benificial for both parties but stop kidding yourselves people its not a true friend.
Im not saying this is a bad thing, people need support and if a person's there to listen then the natural thing to do is use them. If your conversations dont progress further than you mutual inadequacies then you know what you have.
dont get Dr. Nick wrong he is happy to be in this kind of relationship but they can often leave you feeling...'used'

    JUST BE YOURSELF!!!

im sure you've all heard the stupid saying 'just be yourself', well this saying troubles Dr nick and he feels he must speak out on this issue! Have you ever found that being yourself just doesnt quite work? Would being someone else be more convenient now and again? Do you feel insignificant, insecure and unimportant as a person? Dont worry people i know how you feel. ide like you each to ask yourselves 'Who am I?'... what makes you unique from the next person, besides appearance? Nothing!

Individuality is crushed in our modern society from the minute you become and individual, being the time of your birth. We all watch the same shows and buy the same shit hopeing to be unique but when we look around everyone is doin the same! We move into school. Private schools are the worst at stamping out individuals. the uniforms, the dress code, the denial of independant thought through being constantly corrected in subjects like english, all these work to undermine our growing into who we are.

I find this problem even worse in Australia. In Europe people tend to be more liberal and open to individuals. for example on the streets of Finland i saw a man with a biker jacket, red GSTRING and fishnet stockings walking on the main road... attracting no more than a few sideways glances. When i was overseas i fell into the habit of wearing my hat slightly sideways and fo 2 weeks i didnt get one comment but as soon as i step off the plane in Aus the 1st dude i see says "your hats on crooked mate and laughs". the FIRST GUY!!! Not only did this make me self councious, it also tempted me back into the safety of conformity.

How can one be themselves unless they have a will of iron and a skin as thick as leather??? Do as you please but be wary because jealous conformists will try and point you out and make fun when really they are jealous of your balls!

Trying to be someone else is a different kettle of fish all together. If you and try and imitate everything someone does and try to think and act and walk like they do dont you eventually becomethat person? or doesnt that person become you? If i copy someone else am i still not myself? Then how does one define an individual? I would say one is an individual when they have independance of thought from the common consensis... This philosophical question of being challenges Dr. Nick indeed... Ponder further my diciples and comment and if you have a specific question you would like answered on any topic at all please ask...

    Nick's sociological observations
yesterday i decided that i would make a note of people's, in general and my own, behavior. I noticed that pretty much everything people do is driven by a subconcious desire for attention. I reckon its heaps more noticable with some people than others and i noticed it in my own behavior. making a consious efoort to be different and stand out is a classic example and i know we are all guilty of it. By standing out one assumes they will be noticed and commented on either positively or negatively, i dont think it really matters. Im beginning to think that the mere writing of this journal entry is indeed an effort for attention but i could tie this assumption in any single action i took. why then, are we all in search of constant attention even if we dont acknowledge it? im have no answers only questions...

today i found out that eleni was really cut about me and yianni goin up to some guy and asking what he thought of her... after she told me to do it the day before. I think she was just angry because she didnt get the response she wanted. anyway hopefully she gets over it. im SORRY eleni i didnt mean to do the wrong thing by you.
anyway i think its about time in the journal to say some cliched bullshit about friends... i love you guys dont ever change hahaha...ide be lost with out you. I dont think ppl really need to say that general stuff its just stupid. nobody takes it to heart. You have to it say directly to someone, when its a general thankyou it just loses all meaning.

that is a killer photo of me in the game we versed GB

on the 3rd day we played sweden. We played our worst game of the tournament and lost to a team we should have beaten...the score 17-8. the Swedish juniors team was on the sideline though so obviously we were distracted.....they were quality.
After the game me and another teammate (also nick) scored some chewing tobacco and it gave us some cool headspins but tasted bad...i can see the christians rolling their eyes now. haha
the next game we played was against the USA. We expected to lose this game and we werent wrong. We had a few lucky points but lost to an abviously superior team 17-4.

today we play south africa and then germany....two more hard games.

    Tournament Day 2
    hey all,
its mon night and we just got back from dinner.
On sunday we got up at 545 went out to the fields all pumped up and ready.
I was really nervous because i didnt know what to expect from the Swiss but fortunately we walked all over them end score Aus 17-Swiss 4. We were so pumped i couldnt believe it. We waited around and then had to pump up again for a game against the hosts Finland. We didnt play very well and ended up losing 16-8. We were disappointed but kept our heads up for the next day.

Today we got up and went to play Russia. We walked them over aswell with a final scoore of 17-8. It was pretty bad though because we were playing on a very muddy field and one of there players looked about 8 and a half. We came back had a shower and then went out to get ready for a game against great britain. We came in the game pumped and traded points till we broke ahead 8-4 GB came back with 5 goals to take the half 9-8. We ended up losing the game 18-17!!!! I was so close to crying. We played so hard and wanted it so bad that after we could hardly walk and one of our players passed out during the game. anyway i was content in the end because we played our hardest...no cliche intended.

I still havent sent any postcards or bought anything....i havent had time...
Tmoz we play Sweden and USA. We expect to get killed by the US but we should beat the swedes.

    miss you all

    Dinner with chicks
    hey all
oh man i had a mad day yesterday (friday<)
firstly we went round to a local field and had a light training session because it was gravel and i didnt bring any runners...
then we went into town and i saw my bro with his broken leg.
we then walked around and looked at hot chicks and we went into a second hand store and all bought dress jackets for the party.
we then just met these 2 finnish girls on the street cause they were eyeing us out so i waved and they waved and we waved. then we talked to em and eventually had to go shopping. After shopping we saw them again and they ended uphaving dinner with us. I was with geoff and these two but the convo was a bit awkward cause they werent very confident with their english.

    thats all for yesterday
i dunno what we are doin today
    hopefuly more of the same.....

    miss youall

    Finland
    >Hey everbody
Its not 644PM in Turku Finland and im sitting on a computer in our hostel.
The flight to Bangkok was pretty uneventful except everyone was really excited and almost 50% of the team hadnt been out of Australia. We stopped in Bangkok and played hacky. We then transferred to Finnair to travel to Helsinki. I got on the plane to find low-and-behold i had a BUSINESS CLASS SEAT oh yeh!!! i was randomly upgraded with 3 other teammembers and seeing as it was a 10 hour flight it was well worth it.
I slept but im really tired now.

Today we walked around Turku which is a pretty big port city...and yes i can confirm the rumours that pretty much ALL SCANDERNAVIAN CHICKS ARE HOT!!!!! i swear we were scope'in all day and got the courage to talk to a few hotties. In a day in sydney you would prob see 10 or so mad chicks but here every SECOND chick is hot. Man i wanna move...

we have a couple of days to recover the jetlag and then we get into it on Sunday

    ill write again sooon

    Love ya's all!
